Reserve a Run A Locomotive session for Quincy 1100, the last existing TR6A model locomotive. Run A Locomotive sessions run for one (1) hour each.
The 1100 was built in October 1950 by the Electro-Motive Division of General Motors. It was built as a demonstrator locomotive and then sold to the Southern Pacific, later going to the Quincy Railroad for use in Susanville, California. It is an 800 horsepower switching locomotive.
Total price for a QRR 1100 RAL session is $400 for general public, $320 for FRRS members. Reservation deposit is 50% of the total.
The Run A Locomotive season for 2025 will run from May 24 to October 4. When ordering your one (1) hour session, please select 3 requested dates for your RAL. Our staff will contact you via phone or email and confirm your date and time with you. The balance of your RAL payment will be due when your operate your locomotive.

Our World Famous "Run-A-Locomotive" program allows you, our visiting public, to rent a vintage diesel locomotive and operate it on the museum grounds, under the close supervision of your own private instructor. Relive a childhood fantasy! No experience required, just an adventurous mind. Income from locomotive rentals helps fund the restoration of our historic equipment.
Please note that RAL operations are subject to mechanical availability of our historic locomotives, personnel availability and weather. If there is any issue or delay when your RAL session is coming up our staff will contact you.
